The Kings of Reggae: Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and More

When people think of reggae music, legends come to mind: Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. This genre of music originated in Jamaica in the 1960′s and has been popular since. Reggae is a particular music style, based around ska and rocksteady, with artists adding their own flair as they see fit. Desmond Dekker was one of the first musicians to turn the world on to the style of reggae early in the sixties. Following his lead, Bob Marley came on to the scene with his band, The Wailers. He is currently the biggest name associated with the style of music, and one people recognize regardless of their musical tastes. With his band, and as a solo musician, Bob made a name for the reggae style of music and opened the doors for many other musicians to follow. The Marley family has carried on his namesake and the Wailers have played publicly in recent years. Following the split from the Wailers, Peter Tosh used his words to spread messages with powerful meanings. Reggae music is often used to portray deep emotions, religious sentiment, and Rastafarianism. This particular style of music is soulful and heartfelt and many claim that there has yet to be a musician as magnificent as the legend, Bob Marley.
